What this means for you

  • No bank statements doesn't mean no money. If your nationality is on the differential evidence list, you don't need to upload bank statements, but you must still have enough money for your tuition and living costs. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) may ask you for evidence after you apply, so keep your funds in place.
  • Already in the UK for 12 months? If you have held a valid UK visa for at least 12 months when you apply, you don't need to prove your funds, whatever your nationality.
  • Your university may still ask for IELTS.The visa rules and university entry requirements are separate. For degree-level courses, your university assesses your English to at least CEFR level B2 and may ask for a test even if the visa doesn't.
  • Other ways to prove English. If your country isn't exempt, you can usually prove English with an approved test (SELT), an English GCSE or A-level, a UK degree, or a degree taught in English that Ecctis confirms is equivalent to a UK bachelor's degree.
  • Sponsored students. If an official financial sponsor, such as your government, pays your fees and living costs, you provide their sponsorship letter instead of bank statements.

Which countries don't need bank statements for a UK Student visa?
